Summer Art Classes for Youth
As summer approaches many students who have an interest in the arts may go unnoticed during their 9 week recess. The West Valley Art Museum is devoted to helping as many youth as possible attend classes through grants and scholarships that we secure with your help.
The arts develop creative problem-solving and critical thinking abilities , nurture imagination and intellect and perhaps more than any other subject help students to understand themselves and others. In a world of larger and more complex problems the arts contribute to the innovative capacity to solve them.
The West Valley Art Museum’s Young Masters summer youth art class programs:
- aim to foster self-esteem and opportunities to succeed
- emphasize dynamic teaching tactics such as hands-on learning
- offer a variety of classes in an array of media
- present curriculum that several ages can work within and find educational, challenging and fun
- use objectives that meet either state and national art standards or both.
- are taught by State certified art teachers and professional artists
- culminate in a public exhibition/reception with a certificate of completion awards ceremony stating the objectives met
- provide students and parents the opportunity to evaluate each class
Our summer art classes offer several advantages to students. They are free of the demands of the regular school day, offer opportunities for students to immerse themselves in an arts discipline, and increase the availability of small group instruction. These classes also help students learn independence, decision-making, social and emotional skills, character building and values - all in an atmosphere of creativity and enrichment under the supervision of positive adult role models.
In today's pressure-oriented society, summer classes provide a non-threatening environment for youth to be active, develop competence in life skills, learn about and enhance their own abilities, to benefit from meaningful participation in a community designed just for them.
This marks our 12th year of Young Masters Summer Art Classes for youth.
