The Paintings of Eric Kasper
March 21 through April 20, 2008
West Valley Art Museum is offering the first public exhibition of 21 year old Eric Kasper’s paintings in its mini-galleries.
Eric’s work at first glance will remind visitors of the work of Salvador Dali. However, in these paintings there is little of the tongue in cheek sensuality of the master’s paintings. Pre-occupied with ideas of a darker nature and the fragile character of life and the mystery of death, the young artist employs top notch skills in drawing out ideas that are thought provoking and potentially controversial.
Although there are only eight paintings on display, each work is full of images that create a desire to linger and figure out the visual puzzle the artist is offering. Some resemble nightmarish snapshots done in monotone gray and black, another seems to be an actual portrait, while still another employs a grotesque figure/tree with sheep in an endless vista.
The exhibition marks the first of a series of emerging artists exhibits that will appear occasionally at the Museum located in Surprise.
