  Adele Seronde and Gail Kristensen
Painting and Sculpture
Through February 17, 2008
On December 21, West Valley Art Museum in Surprise, will open an exhibition of paintings by Adele Seronde and sculpture by Gail Kristensen.

A student of the well known abstract painter Hans Hoffman, Ms Seronde's paintings utilize the landscape part of the time to express the sheer joy of painting. The exuberant handling of painting material give the paintings a sense of life affirmation.

The sculpture of Gail Kristensen reduces ideas down to pure form and in a sense is very much like the paintings of Ms Seronde. The love of pure forms and their relationships to one another that is expressed in these works give the same positive feedback.

Seronde, 82 years young, has had work traverse the globe in exhibitions over the span of her career. Tireless, and energetic she travels between studios in Sedona and Bar Harbor, ME and the paintings reflect accurately the character of both places. She is also a recognized poet.

Kristensen, who's career spans 40 years has shown around the world as well, from Japan to Seattle Washington. She now lives in Sun City West and has had commissions for her sculpture in California, Minnesota and Arizona.

Seronde says: "I believe all great art is transformative in that it inspires the beholder and enriches the society in which it is created." Of her work, Gail Kristensen says: "I am involved with form and the relationship of space and form. My media is ceramic stoneware and glass on copper. ...My goal is to create sculptural works that do not necessarily follow current trends, but have an ageless quality." The two artists' creations will be on display in the Hoover Cultural Center from December 21 through February 17.
